The Queen's Birthday long weekend belongs to hairdressers with Hair Festival & AHIA Creative Awards

The Queen’s Birthday Weekend, AKA the weekend of hairdressing, is quickly rushing toward us and, with that, both the Australian Hair Industry Awards (Creative) and Hair Festival are open for business.

Hair Festival, which will offer hairdressers the opportunity to shop, learn, compete and connect with a dedicated marketplace, education sessions, networking events and more, will take place at Carriageworks on Sunday 13 and Monday 14 June 2021. So what's on?

SHOP - the Hair Festival marketplace is open both days for you to shop 'til you drop, entry is FREE.

LEARN - there are two days of education available.

REALtalk is on Sunday, offering a full-day program of curated sessions with keynote speakers, panels and highly-relevant topics. Tickets are currently $195.

Festival Education Sessions are on Monday, with classes offered by industry educators and companies showcasing their education portfolio. Sessions are still being finalised. You can buy single session tickets from $55 or an all day pass to attend as many as you like for $275.

CONNECT - On Sunday evening from 8pm - 11.30pm, join together for the Hair Festival party to connect and network while enjoying festival themed decorations, entertainment, food and drinks. Tickets $95.

If you want to do EVERYTHING because #fomo, you can buy an All Access Pass, which gives you access to all sessions and events over the entire weekend at a reduced price of $495.

Please note: the prices listed above are first release prices and will increase to second release pricing soon. These prices do not include the AHIA Creative Awards, which is on the evening of Monday 14 June.

The finalists for AHIA Creative will be announced on April 19 and the second round of written submissions will be due by May 17. 100 judges, the biggest panel in Australian hair award history, will decide who advances. All finalist collections will be displayed in the awards gallery at Hair Festival over June 13 and 14 at Carriageworks, before the awards ceremony on the evening of June 14.

The award categories cover pinnacle titles such as Australian, New Zealand and International Hairdresser of the Year, as well as state categories. They also include awards for emerging talents, men’s hair experts, colourists, cutting aficionados and Avant Garde style, as well as combined categories looking at teams and collaborations, plus a place in the coveted Hot Shots Team.

“We are 100 per cent committed and excited for the launch of the new awards held on the Queen’s Birthday weekend, June 2021, where the industry as a whole will celebrate Creative Excellence across the entire hair industry,” said Linda Woodhead, owner of Mocha Publishing, the organisers of the Australian Hair Industry Awards. “We have worked very hard at becoming a respected and trusted brand and understand that taking on the responsibility of running these awards is a great honour, which we do with humility, gratitude and pride.”

Once again, the June long weekend once again promises to belong to hairdressers!
