Tom White, Rubi Hair VIC

What is your most memorable moment at Global Synergy?

For me it is without any question of a doubt the moment the finalists presented ideas on the Saturday night in front of 20 of the best, most influential hair gurus in Australia at midnight for the shoot directed by Robert Lobetta, Emiliano Vitale, Benni Tognini and Lisa Muscat on the Sunday. I went 5th out of the 6 finalists and all previous had received constructive feedback. As I stood up to present my idea, within 30 seconds the most life changing moment occurred as one of my idols, Benni Tognini, called me out on my idea and called it 'shit'. It gave me until 6am on the Sunday morning to develop a new idea that would impress. Showed me a side of me that I didn't know I had, resilience and the burning desire to prove to Benni and everyone else I was deserving of my spot at Global Synergy.

What eventuated from that moment was, for me personally, the most amazing style and shot I had ever created.

What did you learn most about yourself?

I learnt that I can shape my own career with dedication and hard work. What I do is what I love and staying true to yourself and the ideas you have can lead to recognition, but more importantly the calming and overwhelming sense of satisfaction that producing your ideas gives you.

What did I love most about the mentoring?

Wow!! Don't know where to start.....I suppose the best things would be the incredible knowledge the mentors have and how open they are to teach you. It was really one of those weekends where everyone opened their hearts and minds and the results were incredible. I have never learnt so much, not just about Hairdressing but about life, nothing in my 5 years in the industry equates to the knowledge I gained from Global Synergy. The other incredible gain was the friendships I made that I know will last a lifetime. The mentors and the finalists bonded over the weekend on a whole new level with each other and I will be forever grateful to Emiliano for introducing us and creating these bonds we all have.

What would you say to someone to encourage them to enter Global Synergy?

I would say read what I have already written!!!! If that doesn't tickle your fancy and get the juices flowing I don't know what will. The experience has literally changed my life....and I didn't even win. The weekend alone is such a priceless experience that you would be mad not to enter Global Synergy!! Ask yourself one question.......Would I like to be mentored by the greatest names in the industry and do I want a platform to achieve my goals and ambitions and at the same time make friendships for life??? If the answer is yes then you better get working on your entry because Global Synergy delivers exactly that and more.

How have you grown?

Personally it has given me an unprecedented desire to achieve, and when I say achieve I don't mean through awards and bonuses (although we all would love that!!). Achieve in the sense of finding the true me! What do I stand for, where do I want to be, who is my true self?! Through these questions I have found 'my calling'. I know what I want to do with my life, my goals are clear and the direction I am taking includes helping others along the journey. The work I produce now inside the salon and In front of a camera is what I want to be producing and I am not doing it to with the sole ambition of winning the next comp I enter, it is also about turning my ideas into life form.

2015 is going to be one hell of a year, ideas are in the making and big things will be happening and it is because of the Global Synergy experience. Thank you Global Synergy Family xx
